Sometime this past spring, I signed Jackson up for the Lego Club Magazine. It is a free magazine subscription that you can get when you buy Legos. It isn't more than 8 pages long, but he loves it! Every month, he eagerly anticipates the mail to deliver this and the "High Five" magazine. Simple joys!
Anyway, in the September issue, there was a contest to build the best Lego alien creature. There is actually a contest in every issue, but for some reason this one caught his eye. They were going to pick five winners from the entries, and the winners would receive a $100 gift card to the Lego store. He was all over that! He headed straight to the basement to start building. His creation, though simple, was great I thought - but of course his mother would think that. He called it Cyclops - and true to its name, it had one eye. He finished it in about 15 minutes, grabbed his camera and started taking pictures. He was on a mission! He understood that a $100 is a big amount... and really wanted to see his creation in the magazine. The parts he had a hard time understanding were that the "Lego people" didn't get the pictures instantly when we put them in the mail box, that he would have to wait even longer for them to make a selection, and (the toughest one) that he may not win. It was a learning experience to say the least.
We won't know for a while if he won since the entry deadline is October 1. But none the less, Jackson loved building his alien (which he won't take apart), and it really encouraged him to make something of his own, using his own imagination and determination. Love it!

| Time to mail his entry. Everyone keep your fingers crossed! |
