We had absolutely gorgeous weather this past weekend. Temps were in the high 50s to low 60s. The sun was shining. Crocuses and cherry blossoms are blooming. Daffodils and trees are budding. Neighbors were outside. It was Spring in February. Tom even mowed the lawn and planted some new shrubs in our planter box by the patio.
With this wonderful weather, we couldn't resist the outdoors. So we took a nice long walk in the neighborhood - up to the town center to get some coffee, "special milk", and a few groceries. Along the way home, Jackson and Tom rolled down the hill by the school. Madi chased them. Morgan soaked in the fresh air and fell asleep in the stroller. What more could you ask for on a February weekend?
All was well until we were about a quarter mile from the house. Jackson was running down the sidewalk having a great time when his tenny runner caught the sidewalk and he fell. It didn't look to bad from our vantage point at first, and Jackson is always so tough, that we didn't think too much of it. But then he took a few seconds pick himself up and to say anything. That's when the tears started coming along with the blood. I would consider this his first real road rash... and it had to be right across his nose, and a little bit of his lip and forehead. The poor little guy! He wouldn't let us touch it the whole way home, and he hung tight to Tom the remainder of the way. He was really good when we got home... he took my hand, and went straight up the stairs to the bathroom to get it cleaned up. As we talked and I cleaned him up, he said, "Mommy, the streetwalk hurt me!" Awe! I thought that was pretty cute! What a little boy he is! He did great letting me get the wounds cleaned. And now he loves pointing out his nose and telling his story of the streetwalk.
