Summit started a great new program within the school called the Maker Space two years ago. The goal of the Maker Space is to spark interest in science, technology, engineering, the arts and math (STEAM). They took the computer lab location and converted it to a hands-on creating space. The computers are now mobile and are integrated into classroom learning. At the end of the school year this year, the Maker Space offered a challenge to students and families... to keep making. So kids could document what they are doing and then before the new school year starts, they can bring in their projects to share with everyone as the year begins. Well, the Neuberger family jumped in, taking the project to heart. Jackson initially started making "blueprints" to make a skeeball out of cardboard boxes. Tom thought, "Why not make a full-size one that the family can all help make?" So it started. Two weeks after summer was started, they were well into the project. As time permitted, the kids and Tom worked on it. Noah and I supervised usually. And about two weeks before school started, we loaded the beast up (in two vehicles) and took it to school to showcase.
One of the best things we did this summer. Great memories were created. Quality time was spent as a family. And the kids kept learning and growing through the summer. Thank you Summit Maker Space for inspiring us!

And while all the making was going on, we snapped a few pictures of summer life. Most of these are towards the end of summer... can you tell? The Steeler gear was going out... it was actually for Jerome Bettis' induction into the NFL Hall of Fame.
