Time for the recap of our third Christmas of the season.... the one we celebrated here at our home and by attending mass at our church. It was nice, low-key, and full of excitement for the kids. I spent most of Christmas Eve doing house work - cleaning, laundry, and getting ready for our trip to Nebraska. I may be weird, but I have to leave our house clean and orderly when we will be gone for a number of days. I really dislike coming home to a messy house! So the kids played, Tom relaxed and made the meals (yay!), and I did my chores.
We had a late lunch/early dinner and then we all got dressed in our Christmas best for church. It was funny, our priest strongly discouraged people from coming to the early mass... insinuating that the people who come to it are only coming "to get it over with." So... not wanting to be in that category, but not wanting to keep the kids up for the late (10:30) mass, we went to the one in the middle, 6:30. The kids did amazing... evening mass can be tough for them being tired and just restless. On the way home from church, the kids were singing Christmas songs and talking about Santa. Jackson pipes up a little louder, "Morgan, little kids like you think Christmas is about Santa and gifts. But I know it is really about Jesus' birthday. The gifts aren't important." Very proud of his maturity and understanding at 5 years old, but I know that he would have been crushed if Santa didn't bring him a few presents.

We got home from church, and we quickly spread Jackson's "Reindeer Food" in the snow. His class made this little treat for Santa's Reindeer. The note that came with this stated....
On Christmas Eve, before you go to bed, sprinkle this Magic Reindeer Food on your lawn. The magic glitter, sparkling in the moonlight and the smell of the oats will help to guide Rudolph right to your house. Merry Christmas! Love, Santa
Then it was time to get inside, get on jammies (which were an early gift from us to the kids), watched a short Christmas movie, and then read some new Christmas books. Oh, we also got out the plate of cookies, the milk and the carrots and celery for our late night visitors. It ended up being a later night than we planned, but that's okay... it doesn't happen too often.

When Christmas morning came, Morgan came sneaking into our room and asked if we could go downstairs. Shortly after, Jackson was in the room also anxious to see what Santa had left. So downstairs we went and thus started our Christmas at home with nothing to do but be a family! Such a wonderful day.
