This summer marked the 75th anniversary of the Wizard of Oz. "Why is this important?" you may ask. Well, on August 12, 1939, the world premier of the Wizard of Oz happened at the Strand Theater in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. That's our town!! How cool is that?!
Oconomowoc celebrated the event (on August 7) with an evening of fun festivities, blocking off the main street in town, and setting up a huge movie screen for a showing of the classic movie. Tom headed downtown around 2 PM to get our chairs in place - awesome spot actually - and we all headed down after an early dinner to enjoy the experience. The kids (and me as well) are big fans of the movie... Morgan was Dorothy last Halloween if you recall. So there was a lot of excitement from our house. Morgan dressed in her Dorothy costume, and was even spotted amongst the many Dorothy's there by a newspaper photographer. He asked if she wanted to be in the paper... AH, HECK YEAH!!! So Morgan skipped the Yellow Brick Road for him and he snapped some pictures. We enjoyed ice cream and kettle corn while watching the movie into the night. And it was late when it was all over. It didn't start until 9:30ish since we had to wait for dark... way past bedtimes, but that's ok!
It was a great evening, making great memories. And even Noah did fantastic (slept most of it in my arms all snuggly)!
