First Fishing Trip

The kids had their first fishing experience while we were back in Nebraska. They finally used their fishing poles they got at Christmas. Grandpa took us to Powder Creek Reservoir for a morning and early afternoon of fishing. Our hopes were that they would last an hour and we packed a lunch hoping that might stretch out the event. Thankfully, they loved the whole thing and we were there for close to three hours. We packed seven sandwiches & a bunch of veggies... not sure who we were going to feed with that... but surprisingly, we finished all of them. Jackson ate two whole sandwiches and Morgan ate one whole one (that is not usually). It must have been that clean fresh air that worked up the appetites. There was a lot of casting and reeling practice... not a lot of patience to leave their lines in the water. Thankfully there weren't too many snags for Grandpa to untangle either, but the kids did keep him busy helping with casting, rebaiting the lines, etc. I don't think he cast his line more than once. The fish weren't biting for any of them unfortunately. Thus Morgan was starting to get a little discouraged (or bored), and right as she reeled in her line giving up, she squealed with joy at the tiny fish on the end of her line. Unfortunately, her little fish was too hungry and swallowed the whole hook... he didn't survive. We were just getting ready to call it quits and Mom and I decided to haul the cooler up to the van. That's when we see Jackson running to us showing us his fish. He was smiling so big and was so proud of himself. His survived and was able to go back to the water to grow a little more. I forget what they each caught... bluegill, crappie? Either way, they were happy and so was I. Morgan is already on her way to become quite the fisherman... her tale of what she caught and how big it was grows with each time she tells someone.
